A brief history of the studio

Leopoldo Freyrie and Marco Pestalozza founded the studio in 1993, after having worked at the FAA and the PAA, respectively. Their intention was to set up an architecture studio that would promote their design abilities in a more ample, international context. Their training and interests led them to believe in the possibility of realizing quality projects in various contexts and different countries, in collaboration with colleagues from other cultures, who spoke different languages. This was made easier by Marco Pestalozza’s Anglo-Saxon background, as well as the international activities of the architects of Leopoldo Freyrie, in addition to their shared cultural interests and their similar approach to design. At the very beginning, the studio won two tenders for important projects: the Master Plan of the European Research Center, in Ispra, and the Italian headquarters of Banque Paribas, in Milan. The latter was especially influential in establishing F&P as one of the best architecture studios for the design of large offices, as was subsequently confirmed through numerous projects for the headquarters of international banks. In the years that followed, the extensive research and experience F&P has accrued in interior design has led to a progressive increase in commissions regarding commercial spaces. In little more than 10 years, Freyrie and Pestalozza have designed over 170 points of sale in three continents, ranging from high fashion boutiques to media stores for leading brands.
Their ability to reflect a brand identity through architecture, the quality and precision of their designs and the design assistance they provide during realization, even in remote areas, have helped the studio to develop this sector and maintain mutually productive relations with individual clients. During the same years, Freyrie and Pestalozza have maintained their cultural and technical commitments to architecture, designing new residential buildings as well as industrial and commercial structures, whose quality has been underscored in numerous publications.
In addition, a consistently collaborative attitude has permitted F&P to work on large scale projects with colleagues of recognized talent, such as David Chipperfield and Michele De Lucchi. Since 1993, F&P Architetti has grown steadily, becoming a solid structure and accruing valuable design know-how, which allows it to tackle a wide range of projects, not only with private clients in an international context, but also for large scale, complex public works, like the Ansaldo Museums for the Municipality of Milan and the supervision of work on the Milan “Centrale” railway station.  From the very beginning, Leopoldo Freyrie and Marco Pestalozza have been driven by their intellectual curiosity, experimenting with new ways of producing good architecture, useful to those who inhabit the spaces and beautiful to those who admire it.

Leopoldo Freyrie

He then studied Architecture at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, where he obtained his English Degree , the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), and also earned the AA Diploma, from the Architectural Association, in 1981. In 1985, after his British academic degrees were recognized in Italy, he was awarded a degree in Architecture fro the Milan Polytechnic.
